Chestnut Pinto Mare - Brumby UnhandledHorses - Lara VIC 3212 -
PRICE NEGOTIABLE TO RIGHT HOME
PROJECT / COMPANION HORSE. FOR VERY EXPERIENCED HOME ONLY. NOT SUITABLE IN MY OPINION TO EVER BE PUT UNDER SADDLE SAFELY AND 100% NOT A CHILDS PONY.
Ruby was purchased from the sales some months ago as a companion pony for a weaner in which she has more than fulfilled her duty. There was very minimal history available / provided when we purchased her, albeit she was purchased from a stud dispersal in which she was likely running with a herd (no human contact ever and nil healthcare etc), was separated at the time from her foal (likely without weaning) could lead and tie (she could not). She had been transported to this home via a truck in which she was herded onto with others. When we arrived to pick her up she was terrified of people and very difficult to load into the float (willing but extremely fearful). The rope halter was so tight on her face that it had cut into her nose and become stuck so we had to cut it off when we arrived home, unable to put another on her due to pain. In the beginning, ruby was so emotionally damaged that her go to was to immediately shut down with her head in a corner. I have been able to successfully rope her on two occasions, however, touch (particularly around the head) was to much for her. Whilst I have done extensive work with ruby and am now able to safely stand by her, having her very comfortable with the experience, I have still been unable to "catch / halter" her nor can I pet her without a very fearful reaction. I am unable to properly handle her safely (for her and I) due to inadequate facilities to do so. IF ENOUGH PRESSURE IS APPLIED, SHE WILL HURT HERSELF TRYING TO ESCAPE.
Despite all of this, Ruby is in great health / condition, very intelligent, handles / works well in the round pen and is very loving in her own way from arms length. She has been viewed / inspected by a vet as close as they could get on two occasions who where happy with her soundness and overall condition. She has not been vaccinated nor had feet or teeth done (ever), but he hooves are self trimming and she has been quarantine wormed post fecal count which was surprisingly was only 190 EPG in November 2021 and on virbacs rotational schedule since (paste in feed in which she devours). She will follow you around the paddock all day, loves to inspect kids over the fence and is a very good companion / teacher for younger horses. She is harsh but fair and instills good manners without bullying and gives more than enough affection later on to companion horse to balance out her doses of wisdom imparted on them.
Ruby is a little Gem? loads of potential with the right handler and resources. If all you are looking for is a companion maiden mare, you will not find a better horse.
